“Hm?”

Shanley froze for a second, a flicker of guilt flashing in his eyes. “Busy missing you, does that count?”

He really was trying to hide it from her.

“Is that so?”

Juniper lazily lifted her eyes, giving a nonchalant smirk. “Keep missing me, then.”

“Are you in a bad mood?” Sensing that something was off with her, Shanley's tone immediately turned serious. “Who pissed you off?”

“Lots of people.”

Juniper stared straight at him, her eyes narrowing dangerously.

The smile vanished completely from Shanley's face. What did she mean *lots of people*?

Was some guy trying to hit on her while he wasn't there?

“I'm tired.”

Too lazy to decipher the complicated array of emotions twisting across the man's face, Juniper abruptly hung up the call.

And turned her phone completely off.

Unable to reach her, Shanley had no choice but to call Tucker.

“Mr. Schwartz?” Tucker nearly jumped out of his skin when he answered.

“There aren't any weird guys hanging around Juniper, are there?” Tucker was totally baffled. Was this an interrogation?

It had to be.

Because his own wife had just finished grilling him in exact same way.

*Sigh.*

He was an old bag of bones. Who was going to check out an old guy with no looks and a bad back?

His wife had just been joking, but Shanley sounded dead serious.

“There's absolutely no one else around,” Tucker answered carefully, weighing every single syllable. “Please don't worry, Mr. Schwartz. Our Juniper isn't the type to just look at anybody.”

“Did anything else happen, then?” Shanley pressed.

“I don't think so.”

After a moment's thought, Tucker replied, “Aside from being at the hotel and the competition venue, she hasn't had any conflict with anyone.”

“Mr. Schwartz, did something happen?”

“No, it's nothing.”

Shanley let out a sigh of relief, his lips turning up slightly into a lazy smile. “My girl is probably just missing me so much she's throwing a tantrum.”

“Right, of course,” Tucker chimed in.

“Alright, I'll let you get back to it.”
