“Wait.” Teresa stopped him, her voice low and full of worry. “Are the kids okay?”

James paused. He nodded, his voice rough. “They’re alright. You don’t need to worry.”

Teresa finally let out a breath, the tension in her shoulders easing. But then she sighed again. “Yesterday was way too close. Who would’ve thought Dolly would remember so much… I just wonder when Emmy will get her memory back, when she can finally be with her kids again.”

James hid the same heavy worry brewing in his eyes. His voice was steady, certain. “That day will come.”

Andrew came in, holding breakfast. When he saw her, his voice was warm and gentle. “Heard Emmy came back yesterday. Honestly, I thought you’d stay home with her today, maybe take a break from work. Didn’t expect you to be here earlier than ever.”

Andrew was unwrapping a fork for her but stopped for a second. He glanced up, confusion flickering behind his glasses. “Did Emmy… see the kids?”

Just hearing that made Teresa’s heart skip. “She saw Dolly, and honestly, it was almost a disaster.”

She told him everything that happened yesterday at the old house, every detail of that tense moment.

When she finished, Andrew’s brow was creased deep in thought. He hadn’t realized how serious Emmy’s situation was. Just one meeting could shake her up so badly.

“So, how is she now?” Andrew asked quietly. “Is Emmy alright?”

“Dr. Hall checked on her. She’s okay, for now, but…” Teresa looked at the steady, thoughtful man in front of her, something complicated in her eyes. “Andrew, about us… maybe we should slow down for a bit.”

Andrew saw the guilt in Teresa’s eyes, and whatever disappointment he felt just turned into a soft sigh. He walked around the desk and gently pulled her into his arms.

“Okay,” he said, his voice gentle and reassuring. “Whatever you want. Emmy’s health comes first. We can wait.”
