Sylvia pressed her lips together and remained standing right where she was. After a moment of hesitation, she chose to bypass the bed entirely, pulling out a single chair nearby and taking a seat. She had absolutely no desire to get too close to him, maintaining a polite and safe distance.

Steve did not get angry. He simply tilted his head, locking his deep, unblinking gaze onto her face.
