Half an hour later, inside the dining room, Emmy sat at the table feeding the two children their breakfast. The toddlers were secured in their custom high chairs, gripping their spoons tightly with oatmeal smeared all over their faces.

James walked downstairs holding the brown envelope containing the United Nations documents. He took his usual seat at the head of the table and gently placed the envelope next to Emmy's hand.

"The official papers arrived. Do you want to take a look?"

Emmy did not even lift an eyelid. She was still furious with him. She was angry at his dictatorial control and disgusted by his chilling apathy toward a living life. Holding a small cloth, she gently wiped the crumbs from Dolly's mouth, completely ignoring James's words.

James pressed his lips together. He picked up his fork, selected a piece of smoked salmon avocado toast that Emmy usually loved, and placed it onto her plate.

"Lorraine made this specially to your taste this morning. Try some."

Emmy completely bypassed the plate and reached for a plain bagel on the far side of the table instead.

James paused, then picked up a spinach and feta omelet and placed it in her bowl. "You need more protein."

Emmy put her fork down immediately. She stood up and lifted Joey and Dolly out of their high chairs.

"Are you full, my darlings? Come on, Mommy will take you to play in the garden."

Joey and Dolly had no idea what was going on, but they were thrilled at the prospect of playing. Cheering for their mother, they happily threw themselves into her arms. Emmy took them by the hands and walked out without ever looking back. From start to finish, she did not spare James a single glance or speak a word to him.

The massive dining room suddenly felt incredibly empty, leaving James entirely alone with a table full of luxurious breakfast dishes.

Jada, who was busy cleaning the children's table, simply could not watch this continue. She walked over and refilled James's cup with hot coffee.

"Sir," Jada began with a heavy sigh, her tone earnest and maternal. "Pardon an old woman for speaking out of turn, but I accidentally overheard your argument this morning. Did you say the missus might be expecting again?"

James did not answer, but his grip on the coffee cup tightened.

Seeing his reaction, Jada continued. "This is a wonderful blessing! A child choosing to come to their parents is a matter of destiny. Some families beg the heavens for a baby and never get one. Since the missus is pregnant, it means this child is meant to be with you. You cannot just throw it away like it is nothing."

Jada shook her head, her eyes full of disapproval. "Think of how unfair that is to the baby. It is terrible karma. What do people truly live for in this world, if not to leave a legacy and hope for the future? I know you have a lot of worries, sir. You are a powerful man who thinks ten steps ahead. But no amount of worry is worth sacrificing a child's life. If you get rid of this baby and sever this destiny, you will never be able to get it back, no matter how much you regret it later."

James lowered his eyes, watching the dark ripples in his coffee cup in silence.

Seeing that he was actually listening, Jada pressed on. "Besides, look at how the missus is reacting. She is clearly hoping for this child. She is a mother, and the baby is growing inside her. She feels the strongest connection to it. If you force her to terminate this pregnancy, you might as well be carving her heart out. Once a husband and wife grow cold toward each other, it is incredibly hard to warm things back up. You care so deeply for her, sir. Can you really bear to break her heart like this?"
