Barrett gritted his teeth in secret frustration. Major General Calony had declared Dean Sparrow dead two years ago. Yet, against all odds, the man hadn't died. Instead, he was living comfortably and had even used his dirty tactics to reinvent himself as a powerful cartel boss. This was a direct slap to Major General Calony's face and represented a severe dereliction of duty on the General's part.

Now, Calony had issued an absolute mandate. Dead or alive, Dean Sparrow had to be brought to justice. They needed him to provide a satisfactory answer to James and The States. As a lieutenant following orders, Barrett had no other choice. He had to ruthlessly push Emmy, their only bait, into the line of fire.

Seeing Tyler and Barrett ready to draw their guns on each other, Emmy finally spoke up, her voice cold. "Both of you, shut up."

Barrett leaned in for a look, his brow immediately furrowing. "That dirt road will take way too long! If we push straight through the crossfire zone, we'll get there much faster." He tried to persuade her further. "It's dangerous, but my men can lay down their lives to cover you."

Tyler snatched the map away with a cold sneer. "Save it. We only take orders from Ms. Lincoln. For her safety, we are taking the detour."

Barrett's face turned pale with anger, but surrounded by armed guards from The States, he was powerless to argue. The group quickly regrouped, climbed back into their vehicles, and began the arduous trek along the muddy mountain road.

Hearing this, Emmy's heart skipped a beat. Without a second thought, she followed Tyler up the slope. Terrified the muddy ground would cause her to slip, Nina hurried after her. "Ms. Lincoln, please slow down! Watch out for the loose rocks!"
