Emmy was kissed until her legs turned to jelly, leaving her no choice but to helplessly, indulgently let him take whatever he wanted. She had already cursed the Major General thousands of times in her head. If this bastard hadn't knocked her out with gas, Mrs. Nelson would never have faced so much solitary danger later on. Just thinking about it made Nina's eyes blaze with fire. She whipped her tactical knife from her belt with a sharp scrape of metal, planting herself squarely in the middle of the hallway. "You are not welcome here, Major General. Please leave immediately!"

The blade caught the light and flashed in Calony's eyes. He frowned, ready to snap at her. But then his gaze drifted past the top of Nina's head and landed further down the deck, causing him to freeze in his tracks. From this angle, he had a perfectly clear view of the two figures passionately making out by the railing at the end of the deck. He knew perfectly well that James possessed absurdly high situational awareness. There was zero chance he hadn't noticed the massive commotion of the ship coming to a halt. Yet, fully aware the ship had docked and that Calony would be coming aboard to find him, James deliberately ignored it all to hold his wife and kiss her breathless. He was obviously leaving Calony out to dry on purpose. It was clear that the fiercely protective elite soldier was still boiling mad over Calony's unauthorized detour that had put Emmy in jeopardy.

Calony rubbed his nose, fully aware he was in the wrong. He retracted his gaze, offered a casual shrug to the hyper vigilant Nina, and wisely gave himself a graceful out. "Alright, since they're busy, we'll go wait in the conference cabin. When they're finished, be a good girl and let them know we're here." With that, he turned and guided Mercedes back upstairs.

As Mercedes turned away, she couldn't stop herself from glancing back, her eyes drawn to the deck once more. That towering man was holding Emmy in a protective embrace and kissing her with a level of gentleness she had never seen from him before. Even though Mercedes knew perfectly well that any chance between her and James was completely dead, watching the man she had admired for years bow his head in absolute devotion to another woman sent an irrepressible wave of bitterness and sorrow through her heart.
