Emmy rushed into her bedroom, then straight into the bathroom. She cranked on the faucet and splashed her face with icy water, again and again. Staring at her reflection, cheeks blushing red like a boiled shrimp, she stamped her foot in frustration.

"Emmy, seriously, have you got no shame?" she muttered at herself. "It was just a work chat. Why did you have to drink so much wine?"

That wine had hit her way harder than she expected. She’d gotten so tipsy she could barely remember what happened. With a sigh, she squeezed toothpaste onto her brush and shoved it into her mouth. She started brushing, but suddenly froze. Her eyes drifted down to her right hand, the one holding the toothbrush.

"Eat some more," he said, dropping a piece of steak onto her plate, his voice so relaxed it was as if nothing had happened the night before. "Once you’re done, I’ll take you to the shooting range."

Emmy’s hand paused with her fork halfway to her mouth. She peeked up at him. Seeing that he looked just as calm as usual, maybe even a little indulgent, she finally let herself breathe again. Thank goodness. He wasn’t mad or weird about it. He didn’t care about her embarrassing drunken outburst.
