After the meeting, Tyler trailed James into his office, confusion etched all over his face. “How can you do this? Doesn’t Jamie mean anything to you?” he pressed, his tone full of disbelief. “You’ve lived as him for years, and now you’re just walking away? What about everything you’ve poured into Nelson Corporation?”

James slipped one hand into his pocket and fiddled with his gold-rimmed glasses in the other. Without the glasses, his eyes looked even sharper, dark and unreadable, with an icy hint of ridicule at the corners.

“What about you?” James shot back, his voice calm but dangerous. “Have you done right by him?” He stepped closer, and something cold and threatening flickered in his eyes. “Tell me, Tyler. When those drug dealers took Jamie, where were you?”

Tyler instinctively stepped back, his mind racing.

“When they tortured him, when they burned him alive… where were you then?” James’s words landed like blows.

Tyler stared at him, stunned, as if this version of his brother had crawled straight out of hell. “What are you saying? You think I had something to do with Jamie’s death?” His voice shot up, raw with anger and disbelief. “It was Uncle and Martha! They caused all of it! You haven’t even gotten revenge for Jamie, and now you’re turning on me? James, when did you get so stupid?”

James just laughed at that, the sound cold enough to freeze the air. He didn’t bother to argue. He just looked at Tyler, his voice flat and final. “See you at the board meeting.”

He left without another word, not even glancing back.

Tyler made it back to his own office and shut the door, then collapsed into his chair. Sweat clung to his back, soaking through his shirt. A heavy, twisting anxiety wrapped itself around his chest.

Did James know something? How could he? It was impossible. Unless…
