"Yeah."
Sylvia nodded.
The doctor finished setting up her IV, then moved on to check on other patients.
Chris sat beside her, asking about this and that, never quite settling down.
After answering a few of his questions, Sylvia turned her head to look at him. "You waited here for me on purpose, didn't you? Did something happen?"
Chris stiffened, looking uncomfortable. "He found out."
Sylvia wasn't surprised at all.
Rupert seemed to know everything about her life and work—there was no way to keep things from him for long.
She'd hoped to keep it under wraps until she left for the States; Rupert was supposed to be getting married around then, and maybe he'd stop micromanaging her life. But apparently, he'd caught on much sooner than expected.
She couldn’t understand what he was so obsessed with.
Sylvia let out a long sigh. "So what now?"
"He wants you to stay here," Chris said quietly.
Ignoring the needle taped to her hand, Sylvia shot up from the bed.
"He doesn't get to control my life! Tell him there's no way I'm staying."
"Whoa, hey, calm down, careful with your IV," Chris hurried to steady her, looking helpless. "He's just worried about you. You need to take it easy right now."
"Worried about me? Then why doesn't he do something about the people who put me in this state? Don’t tell me he doesn’t know why I ended up like this."
Sylvia raised her hand, the one full of IV lines, her mind flashing back to the memory of Tristan deliberately hurting her.
"How do you know he hasn't? He's been—"
Chris started, but Sylvia cut him off coldly.
"Dr. Chris, you can't fix what's in here." She tapped her chest. "Wounds on the inside never really heal. The person who got hurt just learns to live with it."
Chris had nothing to say to that. He shook his head and shrugged. "You’re right. Someone always gets hurt, someone always gives in. But that's not how things should be. I’ll let him know what you said."
Give in? Who was giving in?
Sylvia frowned, about to ask, but just then the doctor returned to remove her IV.
Once it was done, she didn't feel like asking any more questions.
"I need to get to the studio. I'm leaving."
"Alright," Chris nodded.
