Clairessa’s POV

Gabriel’s face went pale, his breath stuttering as he tightened his hold. “Now? Here? Jesus….” he cursed under his breath, the words tumbling out ragged, raw panic pouring from him.

I winced theatrically, clutching his shoulder tighter. “I told you…my water could break at any minute.”

The sheer terror in his eyes nearly broke me. He looked like the ground had been ripped out from beneath him, and yet, somehow, he was still trying to act strong for me.

“Great thing…” he muttered frantically, as though reminding himself, “…Daddy plans ahead.”

Then his head snapped toward the musicians playing at the edge of the deck. His voice boomed so loud it startled even me.

“You!” he barked at the violinist, nearly making the poor man drop his bow. “Run inside, now! Tell them to get the doctor! Right now!”

The stunned violinist nearly tripped over his chair as he scrambled, his bow clattering to the floor.

And God help me, that’s when guilt nipped at me. Watching the sheer panic on his face, the desperation etched so deep it nearly broke me, I couldn’t drag this out any longer.

My poor fiancé looked like he was about to pass out.

Alright, Clairessa…end it before he actually has a heart attack.

“Gabriel…” I tugged at his shirt, trying to soften my voice.

“Don’t talk,” he ordered, breath ragged as he half-guided, half-carried me toward the lounge. “Just hold on, sweetheart. The doctor will be here in minutes. We’ll get you inside, somewhere safe.”

I pressed my hand to his chest, forcing him to look at me. “Gabriel.”

His frantic eyes locked onto mine. “I’ve got you. Just a few more minutes. Hold on for me, love….”

“The baby’s not coming now,” I said gently.

For a second, silence. His face went utterly blank. Then his brows drew together. “What do you mean the baby’s not coming now?” His voice pitched higher, a mixture of disbelief and fury. “You said…you said you were having contractions!”

I bit my lip, my shoulders shaking as laughter started bubbling out of me. “I was just…messing with you.”

His mouth dropped open. “Messing with me?”

“Yes.” I burst out laughing, doubling over against his chest. “God, Gabriel, you should see your face!”

“This isn’t funny, Clairessa!” His voice thundered, though his arms still held me like I might shatter. “You scared the life out of me. Do you know what I just…” He stopped, dragged his hand through his hair, and cursed under his breath again.

I bent over still laughing, clutching my stomach…not from contractions, but from laughing too hard.

“Oh, come on. It was funny. You’ve been bragging about how prepared you are, and I just wanted to see for myself.”

He glared, but his lips twitched like he was fighting a smile. “Funny? I nearly summoned an entire medical team onto this yacht. Half the crew is probably panicking below deck right now, and you think this is funny?”

“Yes.” I giggled, kissing his jaw to soften him. “Because you looked ready to faint, Gabriel Storm. And that’s saying something.”

His nostrils flared, his eyes narrowing. “You’re lucky you’re pregnant, sweetheart. Otherwise, I’d put you over my knee for that stunt.”
