Just over an hour ago, I was driving down the road when, out of nowhere, a car suddenly lost control and swerved directly towards me.

My face turned pale as I quickly tried to steer away.

But it was too late—

With a loud “bang,” an ear-piercing sound rang out.

A sharp pain shot through my body, and warm, sticky blood slowly dripped down from my forehead.

Holding onto my last bit of strength, I called 911 and then dialed Robert’s number.

Weak and in pain, my voice came out in a whisper, “Hey, Robert, I was in a car accident. Can you come and…”

Before I could finish, Robert interrupted me, annoyed.

He didn’t sense anything was wrong; he just responded coldly, “Georgia, I’m walking Molly’s dog right now. I don’t have time for this. Are you trying to pull another stunt to get my attention? Stop calling me.”

Then, I heard a gentle female voice next to him.

“Robert, maybe you should go back. What if Georgia really has an emergency? At least she wouldn’t feel jealous.”

I immediately recognized it as Molly’s voice.

I froze, my heart growing cold inch by inch.

Lucas’s deep voice spoke up, “This is a critical situation. I’m not confident I can complete this surgery. It’s best if Robert could do it.”

“Besides, he’s done a similar surgery before and succeeded.”

“But Dr. Wright is off today.”

“Dr. John, we called Dr. Wright, but he hasn’t picked up.”

“What should we do now?”

Lucas took a deep breath and made the final decision: “Forget it. There’s no time. Let’s start the surgery right away.”
