Carson smiled warmly. "My mother will be thrilled to hear you say that."

Right on cue, Miranda Foster walked into the room. "Thrilled about what?"

Carson's smile softened into something incredibly fond. "Marina was just saying how much she enjoys the meditative transcription of Buddhist texts. Doesn't that suit you perfectly?"

Marina shot him a flustered, warning glare.

Miranda watched their playful banter, a serene smile touching her lips. She walked over to inspect Marina's transcription, her expression growing even gentler. "Not bad at all. Miles better than Carson's handwriting!"

Carson chuckled softly. "I'm too entrenched in the mundane world to compare with you two."

Marina scoffed. "Being self-aware but refusing to change is no different from being ignorant."

Carson cast a sidelong glance at her before turning back to Miranda. "Mom, Marina loves transcribing these so much, she said she'll come over often to help you with them."

Marina was utterly speechless.

She had finally witnessed just how petty and vengeful this man could be! If she was stuck transcribing texts, she would make damn sure he suffered right alongside her.

Miranda looked at her warmly. "I'd be absolutely delighted if Marina visited more often."

A maid approached to ask if they were ready for dinner, but Marina politely declined. "My mother just called me home for dinner, and I need to check on my dad. I won't be staying for the evening, Mrs. Foster!"

Carson frowned slightly. "It wouldn't be too late if I took you back after we eat."

"No, thank you," Marina replied with a tight smile.

Miranda, ever understanding, chimed in, "Marina's been here all day; I'm sure she misses her parents. Go on home, dear. This is your home too, so feel free to come and go as you please."

She looked at Carson. "Make sure she gets home safely."

Marina bid her farewell. "Goodbye, Mrs. Foster."
