Marina was so furious she wanted to scream. Did this girl leave her brain at home, or was she just born without one entirely?

"Carson!" Shania yelled out.

Carson looked mildly surprised as Shania materialized in front of him, but his gaze immediately slid to Marina. His surprise melted into a dark, unreadable expression.

"Shania, you're here too."

Seeing him intentionally ignore her, Marina decided to play dumb as well.

Shania's knuckles turned white as she gripped Marina's arm. She glared at the woman beside Carson and snapped, "My cousin's fiancée is standing right here. Why are you clinging to him? Do you have zero respect for Ms. Evert?"

Marina couldn't believe it. Shania's grand master plan was just to use her as a human shield, and she did it with the grace of a sledgehammer!

And because they were standing side-by-side, Marina felt like an absolute idiot. She was seething and so utterly mortified she wished the floor would open up and swallow her whole.

Shania violently yanked Marina forward. "Say something, Marina!"

*Dammit, now she decides to use my name!*

Carson raised a brow. "Marina?"

Shania puffed out her chest. "She told me to bring her over!"

Marina gritted her teeth in the dark, forcing a polite, perfectly polished smile onto her face. She looked directly at Carson's date and nodded graciously. "Thank you for keeping him company."

The woman was speechless.

Shania stared, equally dumbfounded.

Carson's date subtly closed the distance between herself and Carson. Looking like a delicate, wronged bird, she asked in a silken voice, "Mr. Foster, what's going on?"

Carson smiled, the very picture of refined elegance. "I thought my fiancée was too busy to make it. I had no idea she was planning to surprise me. Thank you for your time tonight, Ms. Monet. I'll have my driver take you home."

Marina's eye twitched. So *this* was Giselle Monet!
