Right on cue, there was a knock at the door, and Carson walked in with Miranda.

Rhiannon went to greet Miranda, and the two women fell into a warm conversation, effectively changing the subject.

Carson looked over, meeting Marina's gaze. His eyes were burning with intensity as he offered a faint smile and mouthed the words, "You were amazing, baby."

With both of their parents in the room, Marina's cheeks flushed pink. She quickly turned away to pour tea for Miranda.

As they chatted in the room, Carson's phone buzzed. He excused himself to Marina and stepped out into the hallway to take the call.

After hanging up, he turned around, only to find Kai Foster standing right behind him.

Kai was dressed in a stark white sweater. Yet the pure color did absolutely nothing to soften the dark, brooding shadow in his eyes. He smiled at Carson.

"You just had to follow Ashen to her exhibition, didn't you? Are you worried about her, or are you just worried about me?"

Carson, taller and exuding a chilling authority, glared down at him. "Don't think I don't know exactly what you're up to. I would have thought you'd had your fill of wanting things you can never have since childhood. Yet here you are, failing to learn your lesson, desperately clawing for another taste of rejection. How does it feel?"

The corner of Kai's mouth tipped up. "Just getting to see her makes me happy enough."

Carson's expression darkened violently. Without another word, he threw a heavy, vicious punch straight into Kai's face.

Kai stumbled backward. He lowered his head and licked the blood from his split lip before looking up with a chilling, malicious grin. "I bet you anything, you're never going to have her."

With that, he slowly backed away, vanishing down the dimly lit hallway like a ghost.

Carson scowled deeply. Kai's words had planted a sudden, agonizing seed of unease in his chest. He let out a self-deprecating scoff. Kai just wanted to get under his skin; there was no reason to fall for his petty mind games.

Meanwhile, Phoebe hurried to the lounge to find Nocturne, only to catch him just as he was leaving. She immediately chased after him. "Wait!"

Nocturne turned back, a dark cloud lingering in his eyes. His tone was dismissive. "Do you need something?"

Phoebe studied his face as she slowly stepped closer. "What happened to your face?"

Kai carelessly wiped at the corner of his mouth, his expression blank. "It's nothing."
