Marina's head was spinning, and she was on the verge of passing out. "The Riverside Apartments..." she mumbled instinctively.

She caught herself immediately. "No, not there!"

Sean shot her a sidelong glance. "You're so drunk you don't even know where you live. Don't tell me you're drowning your sorrows over that guy."

"Shut up. One more word and you're getting out of this car," Marina snapped.

Sean glared at her, thoroughly unimpressed. "If I get out, who's going to drive you?"

Marina turned her head away, refusing to speak.

Sean tilted his head to check on her, and when he saw tears welling in her eyes, he immediately backed down. "Hey, don't cry. I didn't even say anything bad. You never cry."

Even when he used to relentlessly tease her, she had never shed a tear.

Marina turned completely away from him, pressing her forehead against the seat. In the dim light of the car, her shoulders trembled slightly.

He frowned, letting out a soft sigh. The girl had really fallen hard.

A few minutes later, Marina fell asleep against the window. Sean ended up driving her back to his own place. Carrying her inside, he dumped her on the bed in the master bedroom. "You brat. Everyone else loses weight when they get their hearts broken, but you actually got heavier!"

Marina mumbled with her eyes squeezed shut, "I drank... a lot of alcohol... alcohol doesn't weigh anything..."

Sean laughed, pulling the blanket over her. "Since you're heartbroken, I'll let you have the master bedroom. Don't kick the blanket off, because no one's coming in to tuck you back in!"

Marina let out a slurred grunt of acknowledgment.

Sean poured a glass of hot water and set it on the nightstand before shutting the door behind him.

Early the next morning, at the Foster estate.

Miranda Foster came downstairs for breakfast and noticed the door to the study was slightly ajar.

Claire whispered beside her, "Young Master came back in the middle of the night and has been copying scriptures ever since. I tried to tell him to rest, but he wouldn't listen."

Miranda frowned slightly and walked over. Pushing the door open, she saw Carson sitting behind the desk. His face was blank, and it was obvious he hadn't slept a wink. A thick stack of copied scriptures rested on the table beside him.
