Marina picked up the call. "Mr. Bailey," she greeted.

Jared chuckled over the line. "Did you receive the flowers, Ms. Evert?"

Marina smiled faintly. "I just got them. They're beautiful. I was actually wondering if you sent them to the wrong person."

Jared's laugh was warm and smooth. "No mistake, they're for you. Our project collaboration has been going incredibly well, and the chairman praised me in today's meeting. I'm very grateful for your hard work, so I ordered the flowers to show my appreciation."

Marina relaxed. "A collaboration is a win-win situation. There's no need to be so formal, Mr. Bailey."

Jared kept his tone perfectly professional. "I won't hold you up from your work any longer. Let's catch up in person when you have the time."

"Sounds good!"

Marina hung up. She looked at the bouquet and handed it to her assistant. "Find somewhere to put these."

"Will do!" the assistant replied.

Marina got off work early that evening but didn't want to go back to the apartment. She called Summer and they went shopping.

After a few hours of retail therapy, they found a quiet lounge to grab drinks and catch up.

Summer dropped some gossip. "Trixie and Colby broke up. Sounds like Colby initiated it, and on Trixie's birthday, no less. They had been giving each other the silent treatment since that incident. Trixie wanted to use her birthday to patch things up and invited him. He showed up and dumped her right in front of everyone! Her whole birthday was ruined, she cried all night!"

Hearing this, Marina was even more convinced that the run-in at the flower shop was a setup by Colby. He had probably been plotting his exit strategy from Trixie for a while.

"He's a jerk. What's there to cry about?" Marina said coldly.

Summer rested her chin on her hand. "I've finally figured it out. In any relationship, whoever cares more is always the one who ends up getting played."

Summer's words reminded Marina of Carson. In their relationship, was she the one who fell first?

Summer grew indignant. "Trixie got dumped in college for being way too obsessed with her boyfriend, and she still hasn't learned her lesson. She even threw away our years of friendship for a guy. She's completely out of her mind!"

To this day, Trixie probably still had no idea why she actually got dumped.

Changing the subject, Summer asked, "How are things with you and Mr. Foster?"
