George nodded with a smile, his eyes darting around as if trying to figure out how to phrase his thoughts. After a moment, he spoke in his fluent, American-accented English.

"When I was in college, there was a girl I fell in love with, and she felt the same way. We ended up going to different universities, but before we left, we promised each other that we'd be together as soon as we graduated."

"But when I finally went to find her after graduation, she was already with someone else."

"She had completely forgotten our promise."

"For the longest time, I couldn't move past it. I couldn't accept that she had a new boyfriend. That's why I eventually moved here—to get away from the place that broke my heart."

"A few days ago, she called me. She told me she missed me terribly and invited me to her birthday party. I asked around and found out she broke up with that guy a few months ago. I think she wants to try and fix what we had."

George looked at Marina with desperate, pleading eyes. "If we meet, and she tells me she still loves me, what should I do?"

Marina stared into the man's clear, sky-blue eyes, completely blindsided.

He had totally stumped her. Her own love life was a spectacular trainwreck—how on earth was she supposed to help someone else fix theirs?

"If you were in my shoes, would you go back and accept her?" George asked eagerly.

Marina thought for a moment. "Do you still love her?"

George fell silent, then gave a slow nod. "Honestly, I've dated other women since then, but I've never really been able to forget her."

Marina let out a bright, encouraging laugh. "Then go back. Give yourselves a second chance! Promises made when you're young aren't always set in stone, but after all these years, you've both grown up. If you're choosing each other again now, it has to be true love!"

George nodded thoughtfully. "You're absolutely right!"

He raised his wine glass. "Thank you for helping me clear my head!"

Marina quickly waved it off. "I didn't really do anything. If you go back, it's because that's what your heart truly wants!"

George took a sip of his wine, glanced over at Carson on the balcony, and then turned back to Marina with a sly grin. "You just said she and I should give each other another chance. So... are you going to give Carson another chance? He genuinely loves you. Despite everything that's happened, you're still the only one he wants!"

Marina froze, then let out a dry, knowing laugh. "Ah. So that was the setup."

George looked slightly embarrassed, offering a sheepish grin. "I really was asking for actual advice! It just suddenly made me think of you and Carson. Our situations are basically the same. Mistakes were made, but sometimes it takes a mistake to figure out what your heart actually wants."

Marina took a slow sip of her wine, her eyes dropping to the bowl of soup cooling beside her. She didn't say a word.
