“Ravenridge Senior High’s anniversary?” Leander’s eyes shifted almost imperceptibly, something unreadable flickering across his expression.

When it came to Ravenridge Senior High, he did feel a trace of sentiment.

After ten brutal years of clawing his way through life and death, that had been the first school he stepped into. It marked the beginning of everything for him–a clean slate, a new chapter after a decade of blood and survival.

When Leander stayed silent, Yvette let out a soft sigh on the other end of the line. “I knew you wouldn’t want to go,” she said quietly. “I guess I just wanted to try. Maybe I was holding onto a tiny bit of hope. But I was right, wasn’t I? With where you stand now, your eyes are on the world. On the international stage. Why would you care about some small school’s anniversary?”

There was a hint of self–mockery in her voice.

She really had made up her mind to follow him for the rest of her life, no matter the cost. She had sworn she would never regret it.

Still, there were moments when doubt crept in, when she felt small and lost.

She was just about to hang up when Leander suddenly spoke. “Tomorrow, right?”

Upon hearing that, Yvette’s excitement surged. She felt a flicker of hope. “Yeah, tomorrow. Will you be able to make it?”

He rubbed his nose before answering, “I’m not sure if I can. But if I have the time tomorrow, I’ll stop by.”

On the other end of the line, Yvette shot upright in bed, her heart racing with joy. She knew that if he said that, there was a very high chance he would actually show up. That was a big step for him to even soften like this.

“Perfect. Ginny and I are representing at the celebration, so we’ll go first and get the school to set up a guest seat for you. You can just come straight over tomorrow.”

Leander didn’t say much. He gave a quiet acknowledgment and ended the call.

In her dorm at Highcliffe University, Yvette had just set her phone down. Any lingering sleepiness was gone. She was buzzing with excitement, completely awake.

“No way.” Ginny sounded completely shaken, her voice trembling with disbelief. “He’s seriously willing to go to a high school anniversary?”
