When I got to the office, Lucas was waiting at my desk.

He slammed his hand on my computer.

"What's your problem?"

He yelped and let go, and I opened my laptop to get back to work.

"What's gotten into you? Over Sophia? Are you really that petty?"

He froze. "You've never talked to me like this before."

"It's not about Sophia. We weren't even official."

"We're both single. Since when do you get to control who I hang out with?"

"Who do you think you are?"

He kept going, acting like he was some kind of moral authority.

"Are you done?" I hit save and looked up.

"This was never about who showed up in your life."

"It's about me realizing you're a flaky, self-centered jerk."

"Did you really think my love was just a given?"

He stared at me, stunned, like I'd just slapped him with the truth.

At the office, their reputations were tanking.

Family members were showing up, and their work was a mess.

Management caught wind and called them in for a talk.

When they came out, Sophia's eyes were red.

I guess the company gave them another chance.

After all, with no major losses, they could afford to be a little lenient.

Lucas went straight back to work, ignoring even Sophia when she tried to talk to him.
