But with her cancer, a liver cancer at that, no hospital would have ever allowed her to donate stem cells.

It was clear she was still worried about Henry’s health.

“He had the surgery,” Vince reassured her. “It wasn’t a particularly complicated procedure. He was discharged from the hospital two weeks ago, safe and sound.”

As for Timothy… Jessica didn’t want to ask.

“That’s good. I’m glad he’s okay.” At the end of the day, he was her son. How could a mother not worry? The Lawsons might not have liked her, but they all adored Henry. He would be well cared for with them.

Jessica was still weak and couldn’t stay outside for long. Besides, it was time for her morning medication. Seeing the time, Vince guided her back to her room.

Sheila spent the entire morning undergoing a battery of tests. By the end of it, she was exhausted and irritable. When it was finally over, she saw it was already noon and wanted to go out for lunch.

“You can’t leave the hospital right now,” Herbert told her firmly. “And you can’t eat just anything. A special meal will be brought to you shortly. I need you to stay here for the time being.”

After all the trouble of finding a donor, Herbert wasn’t about to risk any complications. It was best if Sheila remained at the facility. This wasn’t a public hospital, so there weren’t many other patients. All the tests could be expedited, and they’d have the results by that evening. An operation tomorrow afternoon was almost certain.

Stuck in her room, Sheila decided to call Timothy.

She had called him once before, and he’d been reluctant to answer. This time, however, he couldn’t ignore it. He picked up.

“Timothy, can you come keep me company? Dr. Wheeler won’t let me leave, and I’m so bored here all by myself.”
