I couldn't help it, so I burst out laughing again.

I gave Philip a disdainful look.

My gaze dripped with sarcasm and mockery.

"What are you laughing at?" he snapped.

"I'm laughing at your delusions. At best, you're just the adoptive dad. Real dad? Hah!"

"Salem, don't go too far. I warn you, if you keep stirring the pot, after the divorce, you won't see a cent."

Well, it was time to reveal the truth.

I smile slightly and walk to the front of the hall.

I pulled out a tape recorder from my pocket and placed it on the speaker system.

Immediately, a conversation filled the hall.

"Molly, I can take you abroad, but what about the child? So small and new, I don't want to carry that burden."

"Don't worry, darling. I've got a plan. Someone will be happy to take care of the child."

"Great. Get rid of the kid quickly. I've already booked the flight."

I stop the recording and turn to Philip. "You were hooking up with this woman named Molly a month after our wedding. Did you think I wouldn't find out? I hired a private investigator to follow you."

"In fact, you know a lot less about her than I do. Her name is Molly Hill. By the way, she's a barmaid."

"Of course, she lied about her identity, saying she's just a college student working at a bar."

"She used her looks to fool you out of your money, thinking it was just a fling. But you fell for her."

"Too bad for you, while she was deceiving you, she was also seeing another guy—a wealthy overseas man, richer and more handsome than you."

"She had a kid with him but claimed it was yours, leaving you to raise the child while pretending to go abroad to start a business—promising that once she succeeded, we'd all be together."

"For over ten years, she's been watching her child grow through you. If the kid didn't amount to much, maybe she would've given up."

"But shockingly, the kid has excelled academically and is now back home after earning a doctorate. She's come to claim her child."

Philip's lips tremble. "Salem, you're just making this up."

I turn back to the woman. "Why don't you tell him I'm lying?"

Molly stood still, frozen as if in shock.

When I addressed her, she snapped back to reality, screaming wildly, "Don't listen to her. It's all a lie."

Lexie's face was pale. "Ryan is my biological grandson, my son's child, not someone else's."

I smirked. "Oh, really? We'll find out whether he's your son with a paternity test."

"Test. I want a paternity test!" Philip screamed.

Just then, sirens wailed outside.

Two police officers came into the hall, heading straight for Molly.

They approached her, displayed an arrest warrant, and said, "Molly Hill, you're under arrest."

Everyone froze.

"What's going on, officers?" Philip exclaimed, shocked.

"Molly is involved in an international fraud case we've been tracking for years. Her accomplice is an overseas guy who's already been caught. As an accessory, she'll face legal consequences."

Suddenly, Philip snapped awake. He let out a furious scream, grabbing Molly by the neck.

"Why did you lie to me? Why?"

By the time the officers reacted, it was too late.

Her eyes bulged, and she was gasping for breath.

Before she passed out, she managed a smile, "I may be trash, but I gave birth to a successful son. I'm proud."

Then Philip was taken away by the police.

Lexie collapsed to the floor, helplessly calling out, "My son! My grandson!"

The sudden turn of events left everyone in the hall stunned.

Murmurs of disbelief rippled through the crowd.

"Philip is done."

"One mistake, and it all fell apart."

"The cost of cheating is too high."

I give him a disgusted look. "And your legs? They're as short as a dinosaur's forearms."

He laughs, clearly unfazed, even treating my rudeness as flirting. His hand tightens on my arm.

"You don't look like you've dated much," he smirks. "I'll pay your bill. Come with me."

I am fed up with him. I can't believe I have been seduced by a man like this in my past life.

Now that fate has given me a second chance, I am determined to stay away from Philip.

I try to push him off, but he doesn't let go.

He chuckles, his cologne nearly making me choke. "Don't refuse me. I can show you a good time."

Just as I am about to escape, ready to use my high heel for a little payback, a deep voice interrupts.

"Excuse me."

I turn to see copper-brown hair, sharp blue eyes, and a jawline worthy of the Himalayas.

He is also standing close enough to touch, looking mighty pissed.

Then he touches me, placing a hand on my shoulder and stroking his way down to my hand.

Philip squints at him. "Who the hell are you?"

"Her fiancé—so you must be the clown asking stupid questions," the handsome man lies, so convincingly that I believe him for a second.

"What? What the hell are you saying, man?" Philip finally releases me.

In the next moment, the handsome man pulls me off the chair and into his arms.

"You okay, baby?"

Of course, I am okay personified.

I take a deep breath, his fresh scent making me dizzy. Thank God, I think, maybe I am about to taste love after all.

"Get your legs working," I hear him growl at Philip.

Philip tries to slam down the rest of his beer, but the handsome man grabs it out of his hand and thunks it down on the counter.

"RIGHT! NOW! you idiot! I'm giving you ten seconds to disappear, or I'll make sure you end up in the river."
