Nash had narrowed down the suspects to a few disgruntled construction workers.

“It’s probably revenge, Joey. They were all waiting for their paychecks, but these guys never got paid. Then their families started having… accidents. They hated Aria’s father, but he’s dead, and the case was closed. They probably couldn’t let it go. So they took it out on Aria…”

“The killer’s been hanging around your neighborhood for months. This was planned.”

Relief washed over Joey’s face.

“I knew it. It was their fault to begin with. They started it all, so they should pay the price.”

He’d found a way to justify my death.

Nash stared at him, incredulous. “Joey, that’s your wife we’re talking about! She was tortured! She’s the victim here! How can you say that?!”

Joey closed his eyes, refusing to answer.
