In the middle of their fun as they enjoyed several places to eat downtown, Chris discreetly took out his phone. He typed a brief message to Cale, saying that they probably would not be coming home that night.

Not long afterward, Chris's phone vibrated. He glanced at the screen, then smiled faintly when he saw Cale's name.

“Cale?” Naomi guessed.

Chris nodded. “He's asking where we are.”

Naomi immediately laughed softly. Somehow, she could already imagine Cale's expression from just one message. The man was probably calculating how long they had been out and when they would return.

“He must be angry.”

“Looks like it.”

At Cale's mansion, Naomi's guess was not entirely wrong. Cale stared at Chris's message, his expression gradually hardening. He was not actually angry with Naomi. It was precisely because he was so accustomed to making sure Naomi was safe that he felt uneasy when she stayed out for too long.

After everything that had happened, that worry was still difficult for him to control.

However, before Cale could type a reply, Lydia took the phone from his hand.

“Don't.”

Cale turned to her. “Why?”

“They're just spending time together.”

Cale let out a breath. “They didn't say they would be home late.”

“Maybe they're afraid you'll forbid them,” Lydia replied wisely. She gently rubbed the back of her husband's hand, giving him reassurance so Cale could think more rationally.

Cale fell silent. He could not deny it.

Lydia smiled faintly as she handed the phone back. “Let Naomi enjoy her night. She's been through too much. Now she deserves to spend time with the man who will be her husband.”

The worry on Cale's face gradually faded. He knew Lydia was right. Naomi was no longer a girl he had to constantly protect by restricting her every move.

“All right,” he finally said. “But Daniel will still keep an eye on them from a safe distance.”

Lydia laughed softly. “That's enough.”

Cale's message eventually reached Chris. After reading it, Chris simply shook his head with a smile. “Overprotective Cale is allowing us not to come home tonight.”

The two of them fell silent for a moment before bursting into laughter together.

“He's not even good at disguising himself,” Naomi said with a laugh. “How long has he been following us?”

Chris shook his head. “I think since earlier. He's probably just waiting for Cale's orders to keep watching us.”

Naomi took Chris's hand again. “Then let him do his job.”

They continued walking, while Daniel maintained his distance behind them. That night, Naomi did not feel watched. For the first time, the presence of someone looking out for her made her feel safe rather than restricted.

After their laughter subsided, Naomi and Chris continued walking along the waterfront. Their steps were slower this time. The night breeze moved gently between the buildings, carrying a faint scent of the sea.

Naomi held onto the edge of Chris's sleeve, but her thoughts were no longer entirely focused on the food or the city around them. There was something she had been keeping inside, something that was slowly emerging now that she felt safe enough to say it.
