“David,” Natalie immediately approached David as the young man appeared, making his way through the crowd of students with hurried steps.

“Natalie? What happened? What made you cry?” David asked as he now stood in front of Natalie.

Seeing David’s arrival, Natalie’s sobs immediately became more dramatic. She acted sweet and clingy as usual, seeking the young man’s sympathy. “I’m sorry for making you come here. But you have to help me. You’re the only one who can help me, David.”

“Tell me clearly, who made you cry?” David asked.

“Eli accused me of all sorts of things. She’s even been yelling at me for a while.” Natalie pointed at Eli, who was standing behind David.

David turned around. Without finding out what had actually happened, he immediately glared sharply at Eli.

“What did you actually do to Natalie, Eli?” David shouted loudly. “Haven’t you caused enough trouble already? Why can’t you ever stop embarrassing yourself? Are you bullying her in front of all these people?”

Natalie looked at him with teary eyes, putting on a frightened expression. “Don’t, David... don’t be too hard on her,” Natalie whispered shakily, deliberately making the situation even worse.

“I’m sure Eli is just overwhelmed right now. Just blame me instead. I asked you to come here to persuade her so we could talk this out properly. So don’t yell at her or get angry with her.”

Eli watched the cheap performance with a sarcastic smile. “Wow, what incredible acting,” Eli replied coldly, unafraid despite seeing David’s explosive anger.

“No one is acting here, Eli. You’re bullying Natalie. You’ve made her cry in front of all these people. Tell me, what are you trying to accomplish?” David took a step forward, narrowing the distance between himself and Eli.

“I’m not bullying her, David!” Eli cut in sharply, maintaining her upright stance in front of her ex-boyfriend.

“You didn’t even ask me what happened. You just listened to what she said. You know, she’s been spreading cheap gossip all over campus and saying that I hugged Josh? When that’s a complete lie!”

David scoffed sarcastically, looking at Eli with a contemptuous gaze. “Enough, Eli. Stop making excuses and creating ridiculous drama,” David snapped quickly, without the slightest intention of listening.

“You just can’t accept the fact that our relationship is over. You deliberately picked a fight with Natalie because you’re jealous, right? You’re doing all this just to get my attention?”

A sense of disappointment struck Eli’s chest instantly. It felt so suffocating to realize that even after their breakup, David still chose to blindly defend Natalie without ever being willing to hear even a little of her explanation.

“You’re still the same, David. Always defending Natalie without caring whether she’s right or wrong. What did you say? I’m jealous?” Eli asked loudly, while her fingertips felt as though they were trembling.

“You think I’m so pathetic that I’d have to be jealous of this scheming girl?”

“Eli, I already told you, you’ve misunderstood. We can talk this out properly,” Natalie interrupted in a deliberately sweet, trembling voice.

“David, please persuade Eli so the three of us can talk. I’ve been trying to reason with her this whole time, but I failed. Everything I say only makes her even angrier.”

“Did you hear that, Eli? Wake up,” David added in a lecturing tone that made Eli’s blood boil.

“Your attitude like this is exactly what made me tired and choose to end everything with you. Stop being so stubborn! Natalie is right. The two of you can talk it out properly, just the two of you. It doesn’t have to be in front of all these people like this.”
