Eli immediately fell silent.

The doctor frowned. He still found it difficult to believe. The girl in front of him looked ordinary. Her face was gentle, and she had barely spoken much since earlier. There was nothing about her that suggested she was someone who easily lost her temper, let alone someone who would get involved in a fight that left her body covered in injuries.

“To be honest, I’m quite surprised,” the doctor continued. “A patient like you looks very calm. It’s hard to imagine you getting involved in a fight.”

Eli only gave a faint smile without answering.

After the doctor confirmed that her condition was stable and gave her several instructions regarding rest and wound care, he left the room. Althea sat back down beside the bed and began taking care of Eli very carefully. She helped Eli drink, adjusted the blanket, then made sure her body was positioned comfortably so that her abdomen would not be under too much pressure.

“You need to be more careful,” she said gently.

Eli looked at Althea for a few moments. “I’m sorry.”

“You don’t need to apologize right now. Just rest.”

A few moments later, Daven, who had been in the room all this time, finally stood up. He looked at his watch before sighing.

“I have to go. I have a big meeting with the board tomorrow morning.”

Althea nodded. “Go ahead. I’ll stay with Eli.”

Daven approached the bed and looked at Eli with a worried expression. “Take care of yourself.”

Eli gave a small nod.

“If anything happens, contact me immediately,” Daven continued to Althea.

“Don’t worry.”

After Daven left the room, the atmosphere became much quieter. Only the faint sounds of the medical equipment could be heard around them. Eli closed her eyes for a moment, hoping to avoid the conversation she had known was coming.

But Althea did not ask immediately.

She simply sat beside the bed, gently stroking Eli’s hair and letting her rest. After seeing Eli’s breathing become more regular and her face no longer as pale as before, Althea finally spoke.

“Eli.”

“Hmm?”

“What actually happened?”

Eli opened her eyes.

“I already told you, I’m fine.”

“That’s not the answer I want to hear.”
