Chapter 614

It had been a grueling few weeks for Daven and his legal team, entangled in a long and exhausting trial.

That morning, the courthouse was more crowded than usual. Members of the press gathered outside the barricades, eager to capture every moment of a case that had drawn public attention from the very beginning. The names Callister, Miller, and the two defendants-Harold and Selena-had become the center of it all.

The car carrying Daven and his family came to a stop in a restricted area.

The door opened and Daven stepped out first. His expression was calm, but his gaze was sharp-cold, unwavering. He turned immediately, extending his hand to Althea.

“Take it slow,” he said briefly.

Althea accepted his hand without a word. One of her hands instinctively rested on her slightly rounded stomach, while the other held onto Daven’s firmly.

“I’m fine,” she murmured.

Daven glanced at her. “Stay close to me.”

Behind them, Nathan and Riana stepped out more slowly. Eli was the last to exit the car. She paused for a few seconds; her eyes fixed on the towering building in front of her.

Her breath caught. “This… is the courthouse?” she asked quietly.

Riana moved closer and took her hand. “We’re here with you.”

Eli gave a small nod.

“Don’t be afraid,” Nathan added calmly.

“I’m… not afraid,” Eli replied, though her voice trembled slightly.

Daven glanced back at them. “We’re going in.”

They walked together into the courthouse. Their steps were steady, but the tension between them was impossible to ignore. They brushed past the swarm of reporters who had been waiting, their questions thrown relentlessly into the air. Security quickly moved to clear a path, ensuring they could enter the building safely.

Moments later, they stepped into the courtroom, already filled with people. Several heads turned the

instant Daven and his family entered.

Whispers rippled through the room.

“That’s Mr. Callister.”

“He’s with his wife. I think this trial is going to be even more intense than the last.”

“Even Nathan and Riana Miller are here.”

“And that girl… is that, Eli?”

Daven paid no attention to any of it. He guided Althea toward the seats reserved for them in the front row. Nathan and Riana took their places to one side, with Eli seated between them.

“Sit,” Daven murmured to Althea.

She did as tell. Eli lowered herself into her seat as well, her fingers still clutching the edge of her skirt. Her eyes moved cautiously, taking in the room bit by bit.

Then the door on the right opened. The atmosphere shifted instantly tenser, quieter, the weight in the courtroom pressing down on everyone present. Moments later, two figures were escorted inside under heavy guard.

Harold and Selena.

The moment they appeared, Eli stiffened. Her breath caught, lodged somewhere in her throat.

Selena walked in with her head held high. Her face was still impeccably composed, though her gaze was sharper than ever. Her eyes swept across the room-and then stopped.

Locked onto Eli. Just for a few seconds. But it was enough. Eli dropped her gaze immediately.

“Eli,” Althea whispered softly.

The girl lifted her head just a little.

“Look forward,” Althea continued gently. “You don’t need to be afraid of her.” Her hand tightened around Eli’s, steady and reassuring-silent proof that she was safe, that nothing would happen to her here.

Eli swallowed. “I’m not afraid,” she said quietly.

“Good,” Althea replied, a hint of warmth in her voice.

On the other side, Daven stared straight ahead. His jaw tightened, but he showed no outward emotion. Across the courtroom, Cale and Chris had already taken their seats.

Chris let out a faint scoff. “Still bold enough to look this way.”
