Althea fell silent for a few seconds before letting out a soft laugh. “We were apart for less than an hour.”

“And that was too long.”

This time, Althea truly laughed. The light sound of her laughter made the atmosphere in the room feel even warmer.

“I’m curious.” Althea finally asked after her laughter subsided. “How did your conversation go?”

Daven let out a quiet sigh. “Much better than I expected.”

“Chris?”

“He’s calmed down.”

Althea looked relieved to hear that. “Thank goodness. So everything’s fine now?”

“More or less.” Daven gently rubbed his wife’s hand. “Chris doesn’t mind.”

“About Naomi?” Althea asked immediately.

“Yes.”

Althea fell silent for a moment. “So now the only problem left is Naomi?”

“Exactly.”

During the conversation in the family room earlier, Naomi had voiced her objections several times. She had not even hesitated to refuse after hearing Cale’s explanation. That meant Naomi had a strong sense of conviction and was not easily swayed. She was quite stubborn once she had made up her mind.

And from what they had seen earlier, the girl clearly did not like the idea.

“I can’t blame her.”

Althea let out another quiet sigh. “Yes, you’re right. No one can blame her.”

Daven rested his chin on Althea’s knee. His gaze remained fixed on the woman he loved so deeply. “She only found out who she really is not long ago. Then suddenly she has to deal with something like this.”

“Poor thing.” Althea could not deny that if it had happened to her, she would have struggled to decide what to do as well.

For a moment, they fell silent. The only sound between them was Chase’s breathing, now slow and steady. The child had finally fallen completely asleep. His small head rested comfortably against his mother’s shoulder.

“By the way.” Daven suddenly smiled meaningfully. “I have an idea.”

Althea immediately became wary. “Why do I not like the way you said that?”

Daven laughed lightly. “Don’t be so suspicious of me, sweetheart.”

Althea rolled her eyes again. “Go on. What’s your idea?”

“How about we go camping this weekend?”

Althea blinked, clearly not expecting something so unexpected to come out of Daven’s mouth. “Cam... ping?”
