"Althea needs to know too," Chris retorted.

"Please, Chris." This time, there was a pleading note in Felicia's voice. "I don't want them to worry."

But in the end, the woman let out a quiet sigh and looked directly at Chris. "Please."

A brief silence settled between them. And for the first time since the conversation had begun, Chris seemed to run out of arguments.

His jaw tightened, his hands clenched into fists, and his gaze suggested he was weighing many things. He clearly didn't like the request. But a few seconds later, he finally gave in. "You annoy me."

"I know." This time, a small smile appeared on Felicia's face. "And thank you so much for helping me this time."

For some reason, that smile only made Naomi feel sad.

A few minutes later, the woman said her goodbyes and continued on her way. Chris watched her figure until she disappeared from sight.

Long enough that Naomi finally began to understand something. She leaned back in her chair, took another sip of her juice, and said casually, "You like her."

Chris immediately turned to look at her. "What?"

"You like that woman. What's her name? Felicia?"

"Nonsense." Chris clicked his tongue in annoyance.

Naomi raised an eyebrow. In her entire life, she had never seen someone deny something in such an unconvincing way. "From where I'm sitting, it's painfully obvious."

"No," Chris shot back.

"Denial," Naomi teased.

Chris rubbed his face and let out a long sigh. "How am I supposed to pursue a woman who's already married?"

Naomi fell silent.

Chris took another sip of his drink before continuing. "So I think it's better for me to marry someone else than to put myself in the middle of their relationship."

The words sounded casual, as though they were nothing more than a joke. But for some reason, Naomi felt there was something heavy hidden beneath them. And when she saw the faint smile that appeared on Chris's face, she became even more certain.

The man was probably trying to convince himself more than anyone else.

"Chris," Naomi called softly.
