"Get the vehicle ready at the back entrance. Keep the engine running and make sure there's an escort."

"Understood."

Jasper stepped back to the doorway. His gaze swept across the corridor, where a thin haze of smoke was beginning to spread. The gunfire from the floor below was growing more frequent, punctuated by the shouts of the guards as they relayed reports to one another.

A few seconds later, the radio crackled again. "The vehicle is ready, Mr. Jasper."

"Six men are coming with me," Jasper said quickly.

"Mr. Silas ordered all personnel to remain at their assigned positions."

Jasper's expression immediately hardened. "This is my order."

Silence briefly filled the line. A moment later, the man's voice came back. "Understood."

Jasper slowly lowered the radio. He turned to the doctor. "Make sure she can still walk."

The doctor gave a brief nod. "I'll do my best."

Jasper looked at Lydia again. Her face had grown even paler than it had been just a few minutes earlier. Her breathing had become shallower, while one hand still pressed against her lower abdomen, where the pain refused to subside.

"The medication hasn't fully taken effect yet," the doctor said quietly. "She's still in pain."

Jasper nodded without saying a word. He pushed the door open a little wider again. The corridor was still empty, but the exchange of gunfire now sounded much closer.
