Jasper was the first to move as soon as the barrage of gunfire at the end of the corridor began to ease. The opportunity lasted only a few seconds, but for him, it was more than enough.

He raised his hand, signaling to the six guards still holding their positions around Lydia. "Now!"

The guards immediately formed a protective formation around Lydia and the doctor, moving quickly through the service corridor toward the rear exit of the building. There was no longer any room for hesitation. Behind them, gunfire erupted once again, echoing through the narrow corridor until it became almost deafening.

Lydia bit her lip hard. The medication the doctor had given her had eased the pain in her abdomen slightly, but it hadn't made it disappear completely. Every step felt heavy. Cold sweat continued to trickle down her temples, while her breathing grew increasingly shallow. The doctor, walking beside her, had to support her arm several times to keep her from losing her balance again.

"Just a little farther, ma'am," the doctor whispered softly.

Lydia nodded, unable to answer. Her focus was beginning to blur, yet she forced her legs to keep moving, following Jasper as he continued clearing the way ahead of them.

The service corridor finally ended at an old steel door. One of the guards shoved it open with all his strength.

Bang!

Cold air immediately struck their faces.

The rear courtyard stretched out before them. It wasn't as large as the front courtyard, but it was spacious enough to accommodate several vehicles. A black SUV was already waiting with its engine still running. A thin stream of exhaust drifted from the tailpipe, a sign that the driver had been ready for several minutes.

"Over here!" one of the guards shouted, waving his hand.

Jasper didn't respond. Instead, his gaze swept rapidly across the entire area. It was too quiet. There were no sounds, not even the slightest movement. And that was exactly what made his instincts scream that something was wrong.

"Don't stop!" he ordered firmly. "Keep moving!"

They continued forward. Only a dozen or so meters remained between them and the vehicle.

Suddenly...

Bang!

A gunshot shattered the silence. The bullet slammed into the SUV's hood, sending sparks flying.

"Take cover!"

Before anyone could react, another volley of bullets rained down across the rear courtyard.
