I actually laughed in disbelief.

One second ago, she swore she'd never see Lucas again.

I suddenly thought of Mike and James.

Lucas called, and she ran to him without a second thought. 

I stayed in their room a little longer, then left.

Mike and James loved that place.

"Dad, this place is awesome!"

"I wish we could live near here!"

Mike had said once, eyes sparkling with excitement. 

I chuckled.

"Why's that?" 

"Because then we could come play whenever we wanted!" Mike tilted his head, grinning. 

"Dad, let's move here!"

James had grabbed my hand, looking up at me with so much hope. 

I smiled and made them a promise.
