"Ethan has been sent abroad for further studies."

"Do you think this is related to Ashley's actions?"

Camera flashes went off nonstop as reporters shoved microphones in Ethan's face.

He remained calm, his voice clear.

"Ashley and I grew up together, but I had no idea about any of this."

"If the allegations are true, I hope she apologizes to the victims and faces legal consequences."

Soon, the company's security arrived and dispersed the reporters.

As I walked back to the office, I noticed his clenched fists, his knuckles white.

He must've been in more pain than he let on.

An hour earlier, Ashley had been arrested on charges of workplace bullying leading to death.

The evidence was solid.

For such a heinous crime, she'd face at least ten years in prison.

I couldn't help but ask, "You grew up together. Are you really just going to let her go?"

He stopped, turned to me, his gaze serious.

"Sophia, if you do something wrong, you should face the consequences. Isn't that normal?"

I shook my head gently.

He forced a bitter smile, his eyes scanning my face with pity.

"Sophia, were you one of her victims too?"

I paused, biting my lip.

"Did you get close to me to get revenge on her?"

I looked him straight in the eye and smiled brightly.

"If I did, would you stop me?"

His expression remained calm, as if he'd expected this all along, his eyes filled with tenderness.

"I'll handle any trouble for you. Do whatever you need to do."

He whispered, "I'll always be here."

As the recording ended, Ashley's face twisted in rage.

"No way! Ethan would never do this to me."

"He'd definitely help me—"

I smirked, my tone dripping with sarcasm.

"Ashley, you know him better than anyone."

"He's always been upright and kind."

"The same way he once admired your liveliness, he now despises your fake, cruel self."

"He's done with you."

As soon as I finished, Ashley lunged at me, her eyes wild with madness.

The police immediately pinned her to the interrogation table.

She thrashed violently, glaring at me.

"You're lying! This isn't true!"

She denied it with her words, but I knew she believed it in her heart.

Before I left, I saw the Parkers and their legal team entering the interrogation room.

Ashley looked at me smugly.

"Sophia, you think you've won?"

"How naive! When I get out, I'll make you pay!"

For some reason, a wave of unease washed over me. Something felt off.

Sure enough, news broke soon after.

Ashley had been released.
