Larissa listed off her future plans, ticking them off on her fingers.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over her, blocking the faint light from the window. The handsome planes of his face were inches from hers, and she swallowed involuntarily.

Haskell looked down at her, his voice a low, mesmerizing whisper. “What about more immediate plans? For instance… now that my legs are fully healed.”

Larissa instantly understood his meaning. A sly grin spread across her face as she teased, “Haskell, after the thrilling night we just had, you’re already thinking about that?”

“Larissa,” he replied, a hint of helplessness in his tone, “you have to understand, I’ve been very patient.”

At that, Larissa hooked her arms around his neck, her smile radiant. “So have I. I’ve been waiting a long time, too.”

Haskell’s eyes burned with a new fire, ignited by her touch.

“So?” he asked, his voice husky.

“Let’s go.” Her smile widened.

Before the words were even fully out, Haskell lowered his head and captured her lips in a passionate kiss.

The three small snakes, originally asleep in a wooden cabinet, were jolted awake by the commotion. Unable to find any peace, they slithered out of the cabinet and slipped out of the house.

Before leaving, Sage shot a resentful glare back at Haskell. Shadow simply flicked Sage with its tail, then coiled around the smaller snake and carried it away.

A tumultuous night ensued within the small cottage.

Larissa smiled. “Have a safe trip. I’ll send someone to bring you all back for our wedding.”

“Great!” Zendar asked eagerly. “So, when are you two planning to get married?”

“February 5th,” Larissa replied.

“That’s soon, just over a month away! Alright, we’ll head back then.”

After Zendar’s group departed, Larissa dove into wedding preparations. It went without saying that her mother would design her gown. For the next month, Sapphira cleared her schedule, dedicating all her time to creating the perfect wedding dress and reception outfit for her daughter, obsessing over every detail and every thread.

...

A week before the wedding, with Gale Entertainment’s production of “Soaring High” wrapping up and a major promotional campaign underway, Larissa decided it was time to drop the bomb she’d been sitting on. She leaked all the dirt she had on Fulbright.
