"Nope. I'm saving for college." He glances at the rearview mirror before slowly backing up.

"Careful," I warn between clenched teeth.

"Relax," Colton chuckles and pats my hand, which is gripping my knee tightly.

"Hands on the wheel Mister!" I order.

Colton smiles but does as he's told.

It's a long and stressful car ride home. Colton kept having excuses to touch my arm or hand and I kept having to tell him to keep his hands on the stinking steering wheel.

I'm not looking forward to driving to school with him tomorrow.

"You are so tightly wound." Colton declares as he pulls alongside the sidewalk to my house. "You need to go have a cup of tea or something."

I laugh. "A cup of tea? I wouldn't be so uptight if you would keep your hands on the wheel."

Colton waves away my concerns. "I'm an excellent driver. You just need to learn to let someone else be in control for once."

I huff. I so do not have problems with control.

"Oh, wait. I forgot." Colton says before getting out of the car and running over to my side. Much to my surprise, he opens my door for me.

I step out, slightly taken aback. "Thanks."

"Anytime." He dips his head and practically slams the door closed. I try not to wince. "Oops, sorry. I was distracted." Two red spots appear on his cheeks.

I can't help but giggle at his embarrassment and that eases the tension.

"I'll walk you to your door." He shoves his hands deep into his pockets and strides alongside me. I shouldn't miss the feel of his hand at my back, but I do.

Illuminating Faces

I need to stop touching her. All the way home I kept finding excuses to stroke her hand or feel her arm. She's probably getting weirded out. And I would be too, I suppose, if some teenage guy couldn't keep his hands off me. Although, in my case, I guess it would be a girl.

I shove my hands in the pockets of my jeans to avoid any physical contact as we walk up to her front door. Unfortunately (or should I say fortunately?) she slips on the bottom step and I quickly put a hand on her waist to steady her.
