"Leave me alone Adam. Please, just go away."
Letting out a loud sigh he replied flatly. "Okay fine. I will grant you your wish."
Picking up my phone, I dialed my mother's number.
"Two times in one day Emily, what have you done now?" She asked. "First it was you behaving like a kid. Now, what did you do?"
"He kissed me mom and I slapped him. I am so confused, I do like him but I haven't admitted it and I am afraid to admit it."
"Emily, you need to let go of this fear that you have. Adam seems like a responsible man. I am sure he won't publicly humiliate you."
"Mom–––"
"Don't mom me Emily! You know what your problem is, you are too scared to be with anyone because you are afraid you will end up alone and hurt. I know I am going away soon, but I know God will let me hold on a bit longer so I can see you happy and Emily everyone gets hurt. That's something you can't run from, but at the end of the day, you would have to brush off the feeling. Wipe away the tears and move on. It's time to stop fear Emily, and I demand you go over there and apologize to him and let him know how you feel and let him know the truth about what happened. Let him know why you're so afraid to fall for him. Open up and tear apart all the walls you have built. Be a bit vulnerable for a moment, I know it sounds strange but you have to let him know."
Sighing, I realized that my mother was right. It was time I put my fear behind me and go after what I want. Thanking her, I told her I loved her and hanged up the phone before unlocking the side door that led to Adam's room.
Chapter Twenty-Two: Understanding her in more ways than I
Adam
Leaning over the island, I poured myself another glass of vodka before I took up the glass and throw the liquor back. I wasn't a big fan of drinking, and I wasn't going to be because the woman that I was falling for doesn't want me. Pouring the remaining liquor down the sink, I placed the glass in there also before I leaned back over the island with my head in my hands. I was so fucking stupid. How could I think that she would date me? She heard all the rumors about me being a playboy or a cheater or what the fuck ever those damn nosy ass press named me as in their articles.
I was even more stupid for giving up a lifestyle to please a woman that didn't even want me to kiss her–– that the mere thought of my lips on her disgusted her so much that she had to slap me for the second fucking time. Hearing the door unlock, I knew it was her coming over to apologize once again but I wasn't about to hear it this time.
I could hear the soft padding of her feet as she made her way over to where I was.
"Adam?" Her soft voice called out my name and that was all it took for my anger towards her to melt away. Fuck! Was I this weak for her that I couldn't hold on to my anger a little bit longer?
"Emily," I called back.
"Emily why would I hurt you? I know that you might have seen things in the articles about me but I am not that guy anymore."
"Adam, I don't care about your past. I don't care about all of that."
"Then what is it?"
"When I was in high school, I was dating this guy. He was a star football player. He had shown some interest in me and I was quite happy that someone like him could. He was hot, popular, and really handsome. He had taken me out a few times and he had shown me that he cared, he wanted to have sex with me and so did I. I was so naïve back then, thinking that he loved me and if we had sex we would love me more but before we could do it I found out the truth about him."
It was a Thursday morning and I was at my locker taking out my books so I could go to my next class when a girl came up to me and asked if I was dating a guy by the name of Jake. Nodding my head yes, she took me by the hand and led me to the back stairwell. "You seem like a nice girl, so I am going to tell you something before things get really out of hand and you end up like the girl before you." She said to me.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked. Confused as to why Jake would do something like that. He seemed nice.
"Jake is a player and he charms girls with his dazzling smile and pretty looks to get you, girls, in his bed. He was dating a girl, he charmed her, took her out, gave her a lot of attention, and showed her that he cared.
