Emily

It's funny how things can change within a second, this moment you're happy and smiling and the next you're avoiding people like the plague. I haven't spoken to Adam intimately after I had caught his maid climbing him and that was two months ago. We see each other at work and the only thing we exchange are greetings and me telling and confirming his schedule. He had tried on numerous occasion to say more, to reach out but I shut him down completely. I am slowly trying to get over it but it seems so hard when you have been hurt before it just seems impossible to forgive and forget. Sighing to myself, I got up out of bed before I went to take a shower, brush my teeth then threw my hair in a ponytail. Getting dressed in a gray dress, and black flats, I grab my phone and bag before going into the kitchen.

Getting the orange juice from the refrigerator, I grab a glass and poured myself some before gulping it down in one go. Going into my mom's room, I saw that she was sitting up in bed reading a book. Smiling at her, I kissed her on the cheek before I sat down beside her.

"Are there any progress?" she asked without even looking up. Sighing I knew she was going to ask me this question yet again. Every time after I come home from work or when we talking about stuff, she would just bring it up. I know she is in love with the idea that Adam and I would someday get married and have a family, and even though it seems like a pretty picture I didn't know if there was any chance of it happening.

"Emily?" my mom called out to me when I didn't answer.

"No mom, I still haven't talked to him as yet."

"And why haven't you?" she asked before shutting the book and placing it on the bed.

"I haven't forgiven him as yet."

"Why is that so?"

"He hurt me, mom. I just can't forgive him like that," my voice slightly rising to an octave.

"You need to get over it."

"Why are you pushing this?" I was now irritated by her constantly telling me to forgive him just like that.

"You need to grow up Emily, and you need to get over this." She was avoiding my question, and I'll be damned if I don't get the answer to it.

"Why does me forgiving him is so important to you?" I pushed. "Why is it so important mom?"

"How is she, Melissa? Like how is she really?

"She's holding on, she has her moments when she has these faraway looks and then there are moments when she is happy. At this point, I don't think she's worried about the cancer. She's more worried about you."

"What do you mean?" I ask quiz fully?"

Dropping her voice to a whisper she spoke. "She is more concerned about you and your happiness and based on the stories she has told me, it's clear that she really wants to see you happy. She had taken the news about her time pretty well, and when I told her she should tell you, that's when her face fell. She had made us walk through the park, and she began telling me stories. Stories that lit up her face and she shared her fears, fears of you not finding happiness."

All through what she was telling me. I couldn't hold back the tears, I couldn't hold back the emotions that were overwhelming me at the moment. I had to make this right with Adam so my mom can be assured that I will be okay. Even at her weakest point, she was still worried about me and I was so thankful that I had her as a mom.

Entering his office with his cup of coffee, I placed it on his desk along with a copy of the day's newspaper before going over to my office. Sitting down in my chair, I held my head back as I look up towards the ceiling. I wanted to apologize to Adam but it was easier said than done. Hearing a knock on the door, I immediately straightened up. Coming through it a few seconds later, Adam came to a stop in front of my desk.

"I need you to find some files for me, then make some calls to set a meeting for next month." Handing me a long list of instructions, he walked away. Going down to the files room, I searched for the twenty files that he requested before handing them to him. Going over to my office, I saw a Janitor that was rifling through my things.
