Viktor's words sparked a hint of interest on Matthew's face.

"Mr. Emissary is calling all the squad leaders for a meeting?" Matthew asked. "Where is it? I'll head there now."

"In the central hall of the base," Viktor answered.

Matthew nodded, then looked at Viktor with an approving look. "Not bad. Since you came to inform me right away, I'll let you tag along and listen in."

Viktor lit up with excitement. "Really? Thank you, Captain Benson!"

"Let's go. You lead the way."

Matthew followed Viktor through the winding base corridors.

He didn't think much of Viktor. Truthfully, Matthew had no idea where the central hall was and needed Viktor to help him avoid exposure.

His mind flickered to his conversation with Echo.

Echo, too, had never entered the base. He'd only seen it from a distance and couldn't help much.

Since entering, Matthew had been quietly observing everything, tracking the base's structure and paths.

They continued walking, turning corners occasionally. After about ten minutes, they made one final turn, and a massive underground hall opened before them.

Electric lights hung from the ceiling, and the floor was covered with smooth cement. At the far end stood a raised platform, with rows of seats below it. Clearly, this part of the base had been carefully built and was much neater than the rest.

"Unlike you, Captain Richmond, sitting there with that arrogant look like you just won twenty-five million in the lottery. And your hairstyle too—so trendy. Looks like it came straight from the trash pile."

Not a single curse word came from Matthew's mouth, yet every word stung. Saying his hair looked like trash was just a fancy way of calling Richmond trash himself.

Richmond's face darkened immediately. His glare locked onto Matthew, and he spat through gritted teeth, "You'd better watch yourself. From this moment on, it's a fight to the death between us. Sooner or later, I'll find a way to end you."

A faint smile crept across Matthew's face—but it was sharp, cold, and full of menace.

Since he had chosen to step into Benson's shoes, he had no intention of doing it halfway.

"A fight to the death, huh? Perfect. I like that kind of phrase. But, Captain Richmond, we don't have to wait for someday… Because for you, there is no 'someday' left."
