“You want us to move out?” Manny asked Laurence, wide-eyed in disbelief. “We’ve lived here for thirty years—”

“You might’ve lived here for thirty years, but it’s still not your home. And you were only allowed to move in because you and your father were the acting heads of the family.” Laurence retorted without reserve, leaving Manny speechless.

True, so what if they had lived there for thirty years?

It was not their home. It was where the head of the family lived. In the past, when there was no true heir, it passed without comment when they, as the acting heads, moved in. However, it did not mean the manor had become theirs.

Tony felt aggrieved but did not show it on his face. He hurriedly chimed in, “We’ve stayed here for thirty years and the younger ones were born here and grew up here, so they’ve become accustomed to seeing it as their home. They just have to adjust, so please understand.

“I appreciate why and I know it’s the rules of our family, so we’ll move, but we have lived here for thirty years and we have too many things. It might take a long time to move everything out.”

“Is half a month enough?” Laurence asked. “I’ll give you half a month to move out. The house in your name is not far off, so it shouldn’t be hard. Just get everyone to come back and pack up their own things. You’re not worried about being unable to move it all with so many employees to help, are you?

“But I’ll say this first—you guys can only take your personal belongings. It doesn’t matter what state it’s in, you can’t take anything passed down from previous family heads.

“And don’t try to swap them out for fakes either. I dared to reveal my identity to take over the position of family head because I know everything about the Longbottom family. Where the family head stayed, whatever’s inside the properties, I have records of it all.”

Tony replied respectfully, “Please don’t worry about that. We’re not the greedy sort and we’re clear on the family rules. We absolutely won’t steal anything that doesn’t belong to us.”

In truth, they had already swapped out a lot of the valuable items for fakes.

He did not believe Laurence would really be able to tell, as he had hired craftsmen to replicate them one-for-one. The fakes looked exactly like the real thing, and the average Joe would not be able to tell, unless they were taken to experts to authenticate.

The manors and villas the family heads stayed in for generations contained so many antiques. How could Laurence spot those that had been swapped out?

Tony did not swap the most valuable items, knowing that those would be the easiest to notice. He replaced those that were worth tens of thousands, then sold the real thing overseas.

The money then became his personal asset and had nothing to do with the family.

Otherwise, would it not be such a loss for Tony and Manny to be acting heads for thirty years and still not get anything out of it?
