When they returned to their residence, the lights in the main hall were on. As for the guest courtyard next door, only the outdoor lamps were lit.

The elders were gathered in the main hall, obviously waiting for them to return.

Once the car came to a stop, Noelle got out carrying a stack of account books. Jane came out of the house and smiled warmly when she saw Noelle. "You two are back early today. Have you eaten?"

"Mom, Mr. Laurence didn't have any evening engagements, so we came straight back," Noelle replied. "We haven't eaten yet."

"Then hurry inside and get something to eat. We've just finished dinner. We didn't know what time you'd be back, so we just saved some food for you and kept it warm in the kitchen. It's at the perfect temperature now.

"Fall in Havenmill feels just like winter back home."

The mornings and evenings were already chilly.

"Once it’s fall, the temperature in Havenmill keeps dropping by the day. Winter gets really cold. Mom, make sure you wear extra layers when you go out. It'll be better once the heating comes on."

Jane smiled. "We won't be staying until winter. There's still a lot to take care of back home, so we have to go back and deal with it."

By now, even Ben was complaining and urging her to go home soon. Since Laurence had revealed his identity, successfully taken over the Longbottom family, and confessed his feelings to Noelle, there was nothing left for Jane to worry about here. He wanted her to go home and give her husband and son some attention too.

Jane had been amused. At their age, did Ben really still need her to fuss over him? As for Connor, all she did was urge him once or twice to get married. When he said he would only consider marriage after he turned thirty, she stopped bringing it up.

Chloe needed even less attention. The Ormond family had considered her their future daughter-in-law since she was little, and she and Devon had grown up together. They had always been very much in love.
