Before Josefina could get a word out, Percy spoke up first.

“Josie, come with me. Once you see for yourself, it’ll all make sense.”

He started walking, and Josefina followed him down a quiet hallway to a hidden door.

When Percy opened it, Josefina’s eyes landed on the person inside. Her whole body froze, and she let out a sharp gasp.

“Logan!”

She never would’ve guessed Logan was here with Percy. No wonder all her searching had turned up nothing.

She rushed into the room. Logan was lying on a narrow bed, his wrists and ankles strapped down tight so he couldn’t move.

Percy explained, “Logan’s episodes have been getting worse. When I’m not home, I have to lock him in so he doesn’t hurt anyone by accident.”

Josefina’s voice was shaky. “Why didn’t you tell me? Logan’s my apprentice—I should be the one taking care of him.”

She still couldn’t believe Percy had been hiding Logan this whole time.

Percy met her eyes. “Josie, we’re friends. Your apprentice is my friend, too. He came to me for help—I couldn’t turn him away.”

So it was Logan who’d shown up at Percy’s place that night, bleeding and desperate. Percy had wanted to call Josefina, but Logan had begged him not to. He didn’t want her to see him so broken.

Just then, Logan’s eyes fluttered open. He looked clear-headed—calm, not wild or lost.

“Master,” he said softly.

Josefina’s heart clenched. She nodded at Percy to unlock the restraints.

...

Later, the three of them sat together at the dining table.

Logan just smiled gently, pulling his arm back. “I’m okay here, Master. I’m not going back.”

No matter how she tried, Logan wouldn’t change his mind.

Percy spoke up, “Maybe it’s best if Logan stays here for now. If things get worse, I’ll call you, and you can bring him back.”

Logan had clearly made up his mind. He didn’t want to be a burden to Josefina.

With nothing else to do, Josefina texted Luke, asking him to bring Logan some everyday things—clothes, toiletries, whatever he needed. Logan had stayed with Luke before, so Luke already had some of his stuff.

...

Josefina met up with Alfie at the hotel and told him everything about Logan.

Cash and Alfie listened quietly. After a moment, Cash finally broke the silence. “I always worried Logan would lose himself completely—that he’d forget how to feel, or what’s right and wrong. But he’s held on this long... That takes real strength.”
