“Damn it, I didn’t expect her to slip through our fingers once more,” Lauren cursed.

Bringing up the subject, Ruby said helplessly, “Mom, why did you even team up with Lena? She’s a nobody, always biting off more than she can chew.”

Lauren sighed deeply, regret filling her voice. “Hatred clouded my judgment. I wanted to finish off Josefina and leave the country with you.”

Ruby’s words gave Lauren hope. She placed all her hopes on Ruby, wishing she'd come back.
