Stepping into the haunted house, the air was thick with a spine-tingling chill, perfectly orchestrated to unsettle even the bravest souls. Oliver stuck close to Josefina, enjoying the comfort of her protective presence.

Out of nowhere, a head poked out from the wall beside them. Instinctively, Oliver pulled Josefina into his arms and swatted at the creepy apparition. The head quickly dodged and disappeared back into the wall.

Trailing behind, Brad was completely flabbergasted: Seriously? This guy, who seemed too fragile to swat a fly, moved like a ninja?

The quartet continued deeper into the haunted maze, entering a seemingly ordinary room. Brad, eager to prove his courage, positioned himself in front of Oliver and Josefina.

The room was plain, with nothing out of the ordinary. Catching sight of a mirror, Brad paused to check his hair. But as he peered into the glass, he was met with the terrifying image of a woman in a blood-drenched wedding dress, her eyes bleeding. Something unseen began to gently stroke his leg.

Brad let out a terrified yell, kicking the spectral figure before bolting for the door. As the ghost pursued, Lily let out a scream of her own. Panic-stricken, Brad forgot all about his girlfriend.

Oliver, still holding Josefina’s hand, noticed Lily frozen in fear, her legs seemingly rooted to the spot. He rushed over, grabbed her hand, and together they all sprinted outside.

Once they reached safety, Lily’s face was pale. She managed a weak smile at Josefina, murmuring, “Thanks.”

“It was nothing,” Josefina replied with a warm smile.

Sitting on the ground, Brad suddenly remembered he had a girlfriend upon hearing Lily’s voice. He jumped up and hurried over to her, feigning concern, “Lily, are you alright?”

Lily glared at him, “You said you’d protect me! You ran faster than a rabbit! Look at Oliver. He may not look like much, but he acted like a true hero. And you? All talk, no action. We’re over!”

Furious, Lily stormed off, clearly not wanting Brad to follow.

Brad, seething, shot Oliver a venomous look: “Did you do this on purpose? Trying to mess things up between Lily and me?”

Josefina chuckled, “Did I make you leave your girlfriend behind? Did my boyfriend say anything? You failed to protect your own girlfriend and want to blame us? Maybe it's time to take a good look in the mirror.”

Oliver, with a cool gaze, added, “Josefina’s right. It’s on you for not looking out for Lily. How’s that anyone else’s fault?”
