Josefina stood in the living room, casting a glance over her family, all dressed in matching pajamas. She raised an eyebrow but kept her musings to herself. Was this the latest trend in unwinding after work, or had they decided to abandon daytime attire entirely?

Hattie broke the silence, “Josie, darling, head upstairs and get some rest. It’s late, and staying up isn’t doing anyone any favors.”

“Alright, Mom, Dad, Dorian, Reid, you all should hit the hay too,” Josefina replied with a smile.

With that, the family trudged upstairs, ready to call it a night.

...

After a refreshing shower, Josefina settled into her room when Oliver’s video call came through. She answered, only to see the screen jostle as young Nanshan darted into view, snatching the phone from Oliver’s hand.

“Master, when are you coming to see me? I don’t want to share a room with Uncle. It’s spooky,” Nanshan said, his voice a mix of pleading and defiance.

Oliver, off-screen, huffed. “Hey, I haven’t even complained about you, and here you are, giving me grief.”

Josefina’s voice was soft and reassuring. “Nanshan, Oliver is a good friend of mine. Be good for him, okay? I’ll come by tomorrow and take you out for brunch.”

“Thanks, Master! I’ll go to sleep right now!” With that, Nanshan handed the phone back and dashed off to bed.

Finally able to chat in peace, Oliver chuckled. “Josie, I want in on that brunch tomorrow.”

“Of course, you’re invited!” Josefina laughed. “You’ve been a real trooper with Nanshan. How should I reward you?”

“Marry me!” Oliver shot back without missing a beat.

Josefina paused, then deftly changed the subject. “Sydney hasn’t gone to the police, but she probably knows why I haven’t either.”

Dominic chimed in, “My mom and your dad aren’t divorced yet, Oliver. You showing up here at this hour isn’t exactly going to do wonders for your reputation or the company.”

Shay tried to play peacemaker, “Oliver, this is all just a misunderstanding. We’re family, and family sticks together no matter what.”

Without a word, Oliver nodded to his bodyguard, who delivered a swift kick to Shay’s leg, dropping him to his knees.

Sydney’s rage boiled over. “Oliver, you ungrateful brat!”

“If I’m a brat, what does that make you?” Oliver retorted, settling into the couch, his eyes sharp with an unspoken threat. “Take them.”

Six bodyguards moved in, each grabbing hold of one of the trio. Resistance was futile as they were dragged into the night, leaving Oliver to rise and follow, his mind set on the path ahead.
