Chapter 713
“Uh, Jimmy, I didn’t mean it like that-we were just-”
Jimmy lifted a hand to cut off his rambling apology, his tone calm and unbothered by their earlier exchange.
“It’s fine. Let’s just watch what happens next.”
Julia’s mind had gone completely blank the second Dr. Mercer stepped onto the stage to formally announce his plan to take Maggie on as his exclusive personal protégé, every coherent thought vanishing into thin air beneath the crushing wave of shock and jealousy crashing over her.
When Yale suddenly appeared beside the professor and voiced his pointed, confrontational question, her brain short-circuited entirely, freezing her solid where she stood beside Franklin.
By the time she managed to snap out of her stunned daze and process what Yale had set into motion, he’d already delivered his second loaded question to Dr. Mercer, leaving her and every member of her family with zero window of opportunity to step in and cut him off before he stoked the crowd’s curiosity even further.
If Yale had only referenced “Ms. Brown from Wilson Tech” without adding extra context, a large portion of the room’s guests would have struggled to pin down exactly which woman he was talking about amid the dozens of tech
executives and researchers in attendance.
But the moment he attached Franklin’s name to the description, every single attendee instantly connected the dots and
understood he was speaking of Julia.
A surprising majority of the people filling the ballroom had no prior knowledge that Julia had submitted a formal application to train under Dr. Mercer’s world-renowned mentorship program.
Still, nearly everyone present was vaguely aware that Julia held an academic background centered on artificial intelligence research, so her desire to study under the field’s most celebrated expert struck most guests as a perfectly
reasonable, understandable ambition.
After all, there was not a single rising AI specialist in the entire country who wouldn’t jump at the once-in-a-lifetime chance to become Dr. Mercer’s hand-picked protégé, with all the unrivaled industry connections, research funding. and career opportunities that title came with.
The instant Yale finished speaking, a wave of loud, astonished murmurs rippled through the packed ballroom, every guest craning their necks and sweeping their eyes across the crowd in a frantic search to spot Julia’s figure among the
throng of people.
Most of the crowd had never met Yale face-to-face, yet the undertone of righteous indignation woven through every word he’d spoken made it crystal clear to everyone listening that he’d seemingly stepped forward to defend Julia’s perceived unfair treatment and plead her case to the distinguished professor in front of the entire room.

Julia’s fingers squeezed tight around the stem of her crystal champagne glass until her knuckles blanched pale white against the transparent surface of the crystal tumbler.
It took every ounce of self-restraint she possessed to tamp down the storm of hurt, rage, and humiliation swirling wildly inside her chest, forcing herself to maintain a veneer of poise and polished social grace for the dozens of

Alguém saberia dizer o que houve com o livro, sem atualização a tempos...
Nada de episódio novo?...
Does the book stop? When are we going to get a new chapter?...
Olá, A história parou no capítulo 288? O nome do livro me gerou mais expectativas, quando ela realmente vai desprezar os dois e brilhar???...
Everytime I read new updates I am hoping to see Maggie completely moving on with her life not always checking where Franklin is up to with Julia. I think everyone reading this story by now understand that Franklin doesn't care about Julia. So what is the point of always pointing out how indifferent Franklin is to Maggie and how attentive he is towards Julia....
What does Helen mean Maggie is still married? Married to whom? Franklin has made it clear that he doesn't consider her anything and is flaunting his relationship with Julia for anyone who has eyes to witness it.So Maggie should wait for the divorce to be finalized to date. Isn't that double standards. And Franklin is dragging the divorce deliberately since divorced or not he does what he wants without any consequences. Really women are emotionally oppressed even authors only know that point of view 😕...
I feel sad for Maggie and all married women who have to endure emotional abuse with no end in sight. By the look of it,Franklin doesn't want to divorce Maggie for whatever reason. Either the reason is good or bad, Maggie shouldn't be humiliated like this just because she loves him. And the grandmother should be helping her get a divorce not emotionally blackmailing her, if she really cared about her. Franklin is using Maggie's love for the grandmother to abuse her. Is really loving people wrong? Author this one-sided hurt is not right. Let Maggie move on with dignity. It shouldn't end up with Franklin professing his love for her and her accepting it....
