Diana’s POV

I had told no one about the interview. Not my parents. Not my sister. Not even Gabriel.

This was supposed to be mine alone. Something I achieved without my family influence‚ without anyone guiding my steps for once in my life. I wanted to prove to myself that I could stand on my own feet.

“You should start today‚” the man said suddenly.

“Today?”

“Yes. Dr. Isaac needs a new medical secretary. His previous one went on maternity leave.”

My head snapped up so fast my neck almost hurt.

“Dr… Isaac?”

For a moment‚ everything inside me went blank.

My brain struggled to catch up with what I had just heard.

Was Isaac that big of a doctor to have his own assigned secretary?

I didn't even know doctors had secretaries.

Heck‚ I didn’t even know medical terms properly. I studied management science‚ not medicine. Numbers‚ reports‚ presentations ‚ those were things I understood. Not prescriptions‚ patient charts‚ or anything that involved hospitals.

“I… I don’t know anything about medicines‚” I admitted quickly‚ feeling heat creep up my face.

“You’ll learn‚” he replied simply‚ already reaching for the telecom phone as if my concern meant nothing.

Before I could protest again‚ he spoke into it. “The new medical secretary is here. Come show her her duty post.”

My heart pounded louder within me.

A few minutes later‚ a lady wearing a blue and white uniform entered the office. She smiled politely and gestured for me to follow her.

I stood up slowly‚ still unsure if this was real‚ then walked beside her down another hallway. Nurses passed us‚ patients spoke quietly‚ machines beeped somewhere in the distance. Everything felt fast‚ organized‚ purposeful‚ and I felt completely out of place inside it.

My mind was completely overwhelmed. Everything was happening too fast. I felt like I had stepped into someone else’s life without permission.

We stopped in front of a familiar door.

My breath caught instantly.

It was the office.

I slowly sat down‚ my hands resting on the desk as my thoughts raced wildly. Was this coincidence? Or was this planned? Had he known I applied here? Had he arranged this?

No.

He wouldn’t do that… would he?

I told myself I wanted independence. I wanted something that belonged to me alone. If this job existed because of him‚ then everything I worked for would mean nothing.

My chest tightened at the thought.

Just as I tried to calm myself‚ the door suddenly opened.

I looked up.

Isaac walked in.

He looked calm. Completely at ease‚ as if this moment had been expected all along. His eyes landed on me instantly‚ and a slow smirk spread across his face.

“You’re here‚” he said.

My heartbeat skipped.

“Finally.”
