A couple of cops moved in to grab Isabella, but Benjamin stepped in front of her, face set and serious, refusing to let them take her away. In front of everyone, the two of them managed to keep it together, barely showing any fear.

While Benjamin tried to reason with the police, Isabella glanced around the room. That’s when she spotted Emily and Andrew together, standing just a short distance away. Her eyes widened. She and Benjamin had put together the seating chart themselves, and she knew for a fact that Emily and Andrew weren’t supposed to be seated anywhere near each other. When did those two get so close?

Most of the guests looked shocked, some just nosy, others clearly enjoying the drama. But no one else seemed as cool and unbothered as Emily and Andrew.

Isabella remembered calling Andrew a few days ago. She’d pleaded with him to keep her secret, but he’d flat out refused and even admitted he liked Emily.

A cold, terrifying suspicion crept in. Had Andrew told Emily who she really was? Once the thought hit, she couldn’t shake it. It was like someone had dumped ice water down her back.

That explained why Emily showed up at the engagement party. That explained the police. And that explained why Emily looked completely unfazed as the officers moved in. If Emily didn’t know anything, she’d be shocked or disgusted like everyone else. Given their history, she’d probably be even more upset. But not this calm, not this distant.

Isabella’s eyes went wide with disbelief. Emily noticed her stare but just watched her with the same cool, detached expression, like none of this had anything to do with her.

Isabella felt her heart drop. She stared at Andrew, looking for answers, silently accusing him. Why would he tell Emily her secret? She wanted to demand to know when he and Emily had started working together, but with the police right there, she couldn’t admit anything. Not now.

Her face had gone completely pale. She swallowed hard and looked at Emily, her voice shaking. “It was you.”

The guests looked at each other, uneasy and unsure.

Then Benjamin looked at Emily. He seemed to realize the same thing Isabella had. Thinking about the drug he’d slipped into Emily’s drink earlier, a dark, twisted smile flickered on his lips. “Emily Blair, I’ll remember this.”

He stormed out, probably following Isabella and the police.

With Benjamin gone, everyone’s attention shifted to Emily. People stared at her, their eyes filled with questions and suspicion.
