The thug spat on the ground. "What's the rush? I want to teach this bitch a lesson. She put us through hell all night."

The other man frowned, clearly disagreeing, and opened his mouth to argue.

Before he could, Benjamin stepped out from the shadows, his voice a lethal hiss. "Enough! Grab her and get her to the van. We are leaving right now."

Realizing his boss had arrived, the thug finally backed off, but not before shooting Emily one last, venomous glare.

Emily took a shaky breath and turned her head.

Benjamin was standing right beside her, staring at her with predatory eyes.

"You did a fantastic job stalling for time. But what did it get you? You're still mine. Nothing has changed. Andrew abandoned you to save his own skin. Who's going to help you now? You've been tossed aside."

Benjamin's men moved quickly, binding her hands and feet with ropes, tying them even tighter than before.

Emily let out a hollow laugh. "I really should have just choked you to death when I had the chance."

Benjamin struck her across the face, then grabbed her jaw roughly. "Too late for regrets. You're coming with me."

The slap sent her head spinning. She hung her head, gasping for breath, completely disoriented.

Before she could recover, she was hoisted over a thug's broad shoulder. Hearing his heavy boots crunching against the dry leaves, she forced her eyes open, watching the forest floor rush past beneath her.

About thirty seconds later, the man suddenly halted.

Hanging upside down, she couldn't see anything but the dirt. She didn't have the energy left to try and figure out why they had stopped.

"Tristan. You actually made it?"

Benjamin's voice sliced through the air. Emily's heart jolted, a ripple of shock breaking through her numb despair.

She tried desperately to lift her head and look, but from her awkward angle, all she could see was Benjamin's back.
