"Don't you have a power bank?" Emily asked.

Elizabeth let out another groan, burying her face in a pillow. "I just checked it. I forgot to recharge it after the last time I used it. The power bank is dead too."

Emily knelt and rummaged through her suitcase. "I brought one. Let me check mine."

Using her phone's flashlight, she quickly found her power bank and pressed the power button.

"Well..."

Elizabeth leaned over. "What is it? How's it looking?"

A power bank typically has four small lights to indicate its charge level, with all four lit meaning it's full.

Right now, all four were dark.

"Unfortunately," Emily said, "mine is dead too."

Elizabeth wailed again. "This is the worst luck. I'm going to the front desk to see if they have any to lend out."

"Go ahead, I'll wait here," Emily said.

Elizabeth shuffled out in her slippers but returned shortly, defeated.

"The front desk said all their power banks have been borrowed. There are none left."

Emily glanced at her own phone's battery—down to twenty percent. "Then there's nothing we can do. Let's just go to sleep. Maybe by the time we wake up, we'll be able to leave."

"I guess that's the only option," Elizabeth said, clearly disappointed.

After a long day, the two chatted for a bit before Elizabeth drifted off to sleep.

Surprisingly, Emily felt wide awake, staring at the ceiling as a jumble of thoughts raced through her mind.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

Not wanting the noise to wake Elizabeth, Emily quickly got out of bed and went to the door.

Clutching the device, Emily closed the door. She placed it on the nightstand and connected both her and Elizabeth's phones to it.

The power bank was fully charged.

Even without electricity, there was still a signal.

Emily opened her messaging app and sent a text to Andrew Lane: [Thanks for the power bank.]

He didn't reply. He was probably still outside helping.

Emily slept soundly until around five or six the next morning.

Elizabeth was already awake, scrolling through her phone.

Seeing Emily stir, she pointed to the breakfast on the nightstand. "I've already eaten. The rest is for you. Go brush your teeth and eat before it gets cold."

While Emily was brushing her teeth, Elizabeth came over holding the power bank. "When did you get this?"
