In this standout chapter of the Internet novel My mate, My exception, Patrick Rob introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.

"You just told me. You told me about werewolves and vampires and I'm a human." I state obviously. Would I be the next human to be "taken care of"?

Jake is pulling his car into my driveway and parking it as soon as he senses my anxiety creeping up. He leans against the consul to place both hands on either side of my face.

"Don't worry about that, my love. The mate bond we have practically makes you a werewolf in social terms." I nod my head as he reassures me.

"So what started the war? What was the trigger? I know the whole human and werewolf as mates had something to do with it." Even through all the information I am gaining I still have more questions.

"Well, let me start from the beginning. The alpha of the werewolves at the time was a guy named Andrew. He was older when he found his mate, twenty six. One pf the reasons it took him so long is because he was looking in all of the wrong places.

"When he found her, he was amazed. Werewolves only have one mate and never before had a werewolf had a mate that was human. At first, Andrew was scared, he feared that the pack and other leaders would not approve of his luna, but Andrew-"

"What's a luna?" I butt in.

"It's the alpha's mate or the alpha female. I don't have a luna right now, since Tyler has not mated yet."

"Oh." I mumble.

"Anyway, Andrew knew this girl was his only chance at a mate, werewolf or not. So he accepted her and started the mating process."

"What was her name?" I ask.

"It was Felicia."

"So Felicia started telling people about vampires then?" I guess.

"Actually no, Felicia started telling a friend of hers about werewolves, since at the time she didn't know vampires existed. This friend thought she was going insane though. So she confided in Felicia's parents to control their daughter from 'hanging out with a guy that was making her crazy'. Of course, a mate bond is stronger than any other bond, so as soon as it was obvious that her parents weren't going to allow her to see Andrew anymore, he took control. He picked up Felicia and took her to his current pack house.

"This angered her parents even more. They sent police to the pack house, but the officers never returned. The families who did know about our existence and the existence of vampires figured out what was happening and organized together to try to attack us. We asked the vampires to ally with us, not that we were concerned that we would lose but as far as the humans were concerned the vampires were just as guilty as us. That's why we called them in, to let the human's see they were fighting their fight."

Jake is staring at me and I can't help it anymore.

"What are you staring at?" I ask and smile lightly at him.

"You." He says unashamed. I giggle and put my hand on the door handle.

"I'm honored," I reply blushing, "but I gotta go."

"Already?" He fake cries. I bite my lip. I really don't want to. I could probably talk to Jake all night, asking him questions about the war and himself...

"Yes." I say sadly. "I have school tomorrow and my family is gonna pester me about why we sat in the driveway for so long."

"Okay." He sighs and unlocks the car for me, yet I don't move.
