He had pulled into my driveway and I stepped out of the car before he spoke and stomped up to the doorway with the cake in my hands. Our front door was opened so I headed there instead of through the garage.
Before I made it Jake caught up to me with his inhuman speed and yanked me behind him. I rolled my eyes and attempted to get past him with no avail.
"What now, Jake?"
"There's a werewolf here and I don't recognize the scent."
I froze this time with fear. "Is it inside? Is it gonna hurt my family?" I tried walking past Jake. "We have to get them before it does."
"No!" Jake snarled, pulling my right up against his chest. "Just give me one second."
"Jake let me just-" I tried reasoning.
"Shhhh!!!" He hushed.
I fell silent and so did he. I heard the faint sound of the neighborhood kids playing and I could faintly hear the oven timer going off as well as the light buzz of talking. That was pretty much it for me, so I hoped Jake heard something I didn't.
"I can only hear your family." He says after a minute.
"As opposed to what?" I wonder aloud.
"I don't hear any movement of someone sneaking around or hiding in your attic. The werewolf must be by your family." I gasp, realizing how dramatic I sounded.
"You don't think it's one of my brothers do you?"
"No, it couldn't be. I've met all of them before and I would have realized it then."
"Well there's no one else inside except my family and-" I gasped againas I made a sudden realization. "Jace's girlfriend Anna is in there!"
Jake tensed again and nodded his head. "Yeah I think it's her."
"What if they're mates?" I squeal, grabbing onto Jake's arm and jumping up and down. "I mean Jace was talking about how much he was already whipped!" I was already hoping my theory was right. The thought that Jace could be with someone he loves as much as I love Jake made me so happy for him.
"Probably not." Jake says flatly.
"Well why else would she be here with my brother?" I ask pointedly.
My mom is at the stove and is stirring something over the heat while Justin tries to taste it, successfully burning himself each time. My dad is sitting at the table digging into the chips and guacamole my mom set out.
Jace is leaning against the counter with a beautiful woman by his side. She had blonde hair and bluish eyes. She was also really short, especially when by Jace's tall form.
Jace walked over to us with her by his side. "Jen, this is Anna, Anna this is my little sister Jen and her boyfriend Jake."
Anna stuck her hand out to me "Very nice to finally meet you." She tells me with a genuine smile. Then she turns to Jake. "You too, it seems you and Jen make a really good couple."
Her voice just had enough suggestiveness in it for me and Jake to realize her connection. Everyone else though returned to their usual chatter, not picking up a thing.
When it was time for dinner to be served, my mother set the table and called us all into the dining room. She had made a roast along with countless, delicious side dishes. I sat between Jake and Justin, with Jace directly across from me. My dad and Jeremy were sitting on either ends.
"Shall we fold our hands and pray?" My father asks, even though it wasn't meant to be a question. I fold my hands and bowed my head and snuck a glance at Jake to see him do the same. I realized I never asked Jake what he believed in, but I was glad he was respecting what I believed in.
After a short prayer was said, we dug in and started enjoying the delicious meal. My mom received many compliments, most of them from Jake and Anna.
"So what made you want to be a teacher Anna?" My mother asked as soon as we had all piled our plates.
